Becoming a Licensed Home Inspector

Those wishing to become a licensed home inspector in the State of Florida must:

Any person desiring to obtain a license as a home inspector must pass one of the written examinations approved by the department.

The Florida Home Inspector Exam (FHIE) is approved by the DBPR for licensing purposes.  

Those who take their pre-licensing course through a FABI Affiliate will receive a $100 discount on the FHIE.

Applicants can use any Livescan Service Provider that has been approved by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to submit their fingerprints to the department. Please ensure that the Originating Agency Identification (ORI) number is provided to the Provider when you submit your fingerprints.

Obtain commercial general liability in the amount of $300,000.

Continuing Education Requirements for Licensed Home Inspectors

The DBPR requires licensed home inspectors to earn 14 hours of continuing education every two years for license renewal – 12 general credits and two hurricane mitigation credits.

All credits must be earned from a DBPR approved provider.
